New Market Police Department Records
The New Market Police Department lists Chief Chris Rinker and a direct police line at 540-740-3776. The town says it holds police-created criminal investigative records, incident reports, and call logs. Those products serve different needs. A call log can document a service entry, while an incident report contains the agency’s recorded account and a court docket tracks charges filed in court.

New Market Record Response Times
The town’s normal FOIA response period is five working days after it receives a sufficiently clear request. New Market may provide records, explain a lawful withholding, state that a record cannot be located or does not exist, or explain in writing why seven added working days are needed. That produces a normal extended path of up to 12 working days.
Timing can change when the town lawfully seeks a deposit for a large estimated cost. The page also warns that a requester with a bill more than 30 days overdue may have to pay it before a new request is processed. Ask for an advance estimate and narrow a broad time range. These steps can reduce search costs without surrendering the right to request existing, reasonably described records.

New Market Arrests and Bookings
New Market has no municipal jail. After a custodial arrest, the town police report remains with New Market while intake and present-custody information goes to RSW Regional Jail in Front Royal. New Market Police Record Types
A call log, incident report, and court docket are not interchangeable. The call log reflects a request for service or dispatch entry. An incident report records police observations, allegations, and investigative details subject to redaction. The court docket begins when judicial process or a filed charge reaches the state court and then records hearings and outcomes.
If a call log confirms a response but no online case appears, that does not prove an error. The incident may not have led to a charge, the filing may be new, the name may differ, or public access may be restricted. Ask New Market for the police-created record and use the court clerk for judicial documents. A complete request names the product sought instead of asking for “everything” about a person.

Processing takes time, and one file may not reflect a later change in another system. Confirm a final charge with the court. Request the underlying report from New Market.
